| RAF Ludford Magna was home to 101 Squadron, 1 Group, Bomber command. 101 was the Squadron responsible for operating the ABC jamming equipment, as a result their aircraft, or at least some of them, took part in most of the heavy raids. After closure Ludford was one of many airfields to house the Thor missiles.
Very little remains today, a few buildings, the much reduced perimeter track and the East / West runway which is also just a track. A memorial stands alongside the main A631 road. A return visit was made in June 2005. We had permission from the airfield owners to "go where we pleased" thereby obtaining the 2005 photos on what is private land. |
