An interesting experiment took place at Kelstern. It was noted that the new Avro Lincolns would not fit in a standard T2, a possible solution involved laying a tramtrack into the hangar. A lincoln prototype was flown in, mounted on a truck on the tracks and dragged in sideways ! The end of the war and closure of many "duration only" airfields negated the continued use of this system. The tracks survive alongside the Western T2 base, 2005 |
