| Not a lot left of this former 1 Group airfield, home to 625 Squadron. A few buildings exist as do portions of two runways and a perimeter track. There is a very good memorial close to one of the surviving pieces of runway.
A return visit was made in June 2005, aided once again by RAF museum original site plans. This enabled us to identify a lot of the remaining structures. Have a look at the picture of the tram lines and read the caption. |

An interesting experiment took place at Kelstern. It was noted that the new Avro Lincolns would not fit in a standard T2, a possible solution involved laying a tramtrack into the hangar. A lincoln prototype was flown in, mounted on a truck on the tracks and dragged in sideways ! The end of the war and closure of many "duration only" airfields negated the continued use of this system.
